Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope
The southern tip of the Cape
Peninsula has two points, the Cape of Good Hope and the still more southern
Cape Point. However,
neither of these points is the most southern tip of Africa, 
which lies some 150 km further south-east. There, at Cape Agulhas, the Atlantic
and the Indian Ocean meet, as the scientists see it.
But
for the tourists the two points on the Cape Peninsula are much more
attractive, and they come in great numbers and enjoy the view, the roaring
surge of the oceans and the wonderful beaches.

Situated in the 7750 hectare Cape
Peninsula National Park the area is spectacularly beautiful.
- This is where the cold Beguela current on the West
coast and the warm Agulhus current on the East coast merge.
- Cape
Point offers one
of the highest sea cliffs in the world at
249m above sea level.
- The circumnavigation of the Cape
of Good hope led to the establishment of a sea route to the East and subsequent
trade.
- There
are 26
recorded shipwrecks.
- It
is a bird watcher's paradise with at least 250 species of birds found
here.
- Approximately
1 100 indigenous plant species, some of which, occur no where else on
earth.
- A
variety of buck, baboons & other animals.
- Swimming
at Bordjiesrif and Buffel Bay tidal pools.
- Cape Point has numerous scenic walks
& trails.
- Excellent
angling & diving spots.
- Whale
and dolphin watching from May to November.
- Historical
monuments including the Diaz and Da Gama crosses.
- The
Cape Point funicular takes visitors on scenic trips to the old
lighthouse
