The presence of Cape Town 's Table Mountain is the most dramatic feature of the Cape Peninsular. Cape Town is affectionately called the "mother city" by its inhabitants. Cape Town 's historical working harbor at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront evokes the era of early days with its shopping areas, flea markets and restaurants.
There is
plenty to do in Cape Town: take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain at sunset, a
boat trip to Robben Island where former President Nelson Mandela was
imprisoned for much of his life, visit the botanical gardens of
Kirstenbosch or the Cape Point. Use Cape Town as a base for exploring the
Stellenbosch Wine Route - South Africa’s oldest with 22 private cellars
and cooperative wineries within an hour’s drive.
