Kroonstad is on the main tourist route on the N1 from Cape
Town to Johannesburg.
It makes for an excellent overnight stop for those traveling the N1 route. Kroonstad
has the distinction of being one of the most beautiful towns in the Free

Kroonstad was established in 1855. Situated in the Free State in South Africa,
Kroonstad is named after a horse called Kroon (which means Crown), owned
by Adriaan de la Rey. The horse had a mishap in a stream which was named
Kroonspruit.
